Royal Cards by Jdan-S Royal Cards by Jdan-S
Second entry for the #Ponies-For-Everypony group's royalty contest.

This one took a while. Multiple characters, card design and re-imagining cast members from the first Hearth's Warming Eve was a good deal of work!

So here we have my take on Clover the Clever, Smart Cookie, Princess Platinum and Commander Hurricane. Private Pansy and Chancellor Puddinghead didn't make it, as I wasn't satisfied with their character designs yet. If they did, Pansy might have been another jack or ace, and the Chancellor would, of course, be the joker.

With my first entry being a JRPG tribute, I wanted to continue that theme and originally meant to use these as character icons in a first-person dungeon crawl RPG mockup, but couldn't come up with a good design for the UI. Another idea was to go with a "character select" screen typical of classic beat-em-up arcade games. In the end, replaying Alice: Madness Returns at the time gave me the idea about royal ranks in playing cards.

Nice job. I really like depictions of these characters, particularly the very few like yours which try to imagine them as they might have originally looked, instead of the Mane 6 dressed in their costumes. You did a good job of making them recognizable. Nice color choices; of course Clover the Clever would be green. :) I hope you get around to doing the rest.

Thanks! =)

The details for the other two are still kinda sketchy. But I imagine Private Pansy to be a timid stallion, typically the new recruit. As for the chancellor, it's hard to decide on an age and gender for a character who's as random as Pinkie! :XD:

It's truly a remarkable thing of wonder how you've taken each of these characters, all of whom have never been seen within the series except from their mane 6 actress counterparts, and composed them in such a beautifully refined and sublime way as you have done here that truly makes each and every one of them here an undeniable personification of the ponies that they are slated to represent. You sincerely never fail to amaze me with your incredible design talents, Jdan, and this latest example from you here is certainly no exception at all! :D

The far-off stare of wonderment and contemplation from Clover, the confident smirk plastered upon Cookie's face, the gaze of regal melancholy shimmering from Platinum's eyes, and fierce grimace of determination pulsating from Hurricane, you have truly brought each and every one of these iconic ponies to life in the most perfect of ways under the treatment of your ever-fantastic artistic stylings in a way that no other artist out there has ever come CLOSE to doing. After seeing your fabulous interpretation here, I really can't even picture them any other way now, and your flawless composition of these ponies of legend are just another shining testament to what a creative and artistic GENIUS that you are, pal! :D

And your idea of implementing them in playing card-form here was another stroke of pure BRILLIANCE as well, and really shows off the royal-esque nature of these ponies in the most PERFECT of ways! Although, I have to say, having a deck of cards like this would most likely end up being both a good AND bad thing, the good, of course, being having a beautifully designed pony-themed deck of cards like this, and the bad being the fact that I don't think I would EVER be able to keep a straight poker face with all of the smiles that would be coming forth from having an entire card hand of adorable ponies in front of me! Haha ;p

But all in all, this is yet another beautiful pony-based creation from you that was a true pleasure to see indeed, and another truly amazing entry into the P-F-EP royalty contest. With all of the breathtaking entries that you have been bringing to life, I'm sure you are LITERALLY sweeping the competition off their feet, and of course, I wish you all of the best of luck to your success and victory in this contest, pal! :D

Good to hear that each of the portraits really painted a fitting image for each of the characters! It's a shame the Chancellor and Private Pansy didn't make it. But I only decided not to include them because I wanted to put the same amount of work and consideration into their character redesigns as these four. They should get their own cards in the future!

Working on this reminded me of the time I tried to design my own Tarot deck. And right off the bat, some obvious MLP choices would be: Celestia - The Sun, Luna - The Moon, Twilight - the Star, Derpy - the Fool and so on! Either I'm gonna make a few pony tarot cards in the future, or I'm gonna work on another crossover idea: My Little Pony - Friendship is Magical Drop! =D

HA! :D

In all actuality, the idea of Magical Drop was the first thing that popped into my mind after seeing your fantastic designs here! ^^

I guess that great minds just continue to think alike; right, pal? :highfive:

I could tell immediately who those ponies were supposedto be, so great job! :D I love how you distanced them from their actor counterparts. Also snazzy backgrounds! And nice job with the shading ^^

Thanks! =)

I just tried to imagine how they would look if there were Equestrian history books/archives about Hearth's Warming Eve.
